Public Health Fund Grants

Chamber’s Public Health Fund

Grants were given to the following organizations for the projects listed in the second half of 2010.

Chamber’s PHF gave a $17,000 grant to the “Food 4 Keiki PackPack Program”. According to the Hawaii Food Bank, children are the largest population struggling with hunger. Although there are school programs available to offer free or reduced prices on food to children in need, this program will address hunger over the weekends when school programs are not available. Back packs will be provided for children who qualify to take home with them.
Other grants give this year included:
• $16,500 to the Waikiki Health Center which provides a “medical home” to thousands of Oahu’s most at risk and disadvantaged residents, including those who are uninsured, the working poor, underprivileged children, homeless youth, and seniors living on fixed incomes.
• $15, 000 to The Institute for Human Services (IHS) which provides emergency shelter for homeless citizens including families with children.
• $10,000 to Project H.O.P.E.: “Healthcare Outreach Provided with Excellence” at the Waimanalo Health center. With increased unemployment, the program assists the uninsured so they can connect to available assistance services.
• $3, 500 to United Self Help so they may continue their support groups.

Qualified individuals and organizations are encouraged to submit grant applications: Submit project proposals that address health care issues on the island of Oahu to the Public Health Fund Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.
